Montel Williams recently shared with us his military background. Most people don’t know that he is one of the most decorated, peacetime Naval Lieutenants in history. He talked about how he played a lot of winning poker while in the Navy.
He told us that when you are in the military, especially when you are on a submarine or aircraft carrier, you have a lot of free time on your hands with nowhere to go. So, many people fill their time by having fun playing poker.
Well Montel Williams was very good at the game. He won a lot of money. In fact, a few of his shipmates owed him poker money. Everything was fine until one pay day when the operations officer called him in and told him those debts were cancelled. And that if he catches him playing poker again, he will be court marshalled.
In July of 2007, Montel Williams played in the World Series of Poker Main Event. On day 1 he was actually the chip leader for almost 10 hours. During that 10 hour period, between ESPN, WSOP, and Fox, they got over 17 million emails. The emails were saying, “I didn’t know Montel Williams played poker.”
He realized that people wanted to see him play poker.
He started hosting games at the Golden Nugget and other casinos. He hosted sit-and-go Texas Hold ‘Em poker games with entrance fees of $1000, $5000, and $10,000. People would show up just to play him in these tournaments.
A couple years ago he played on the US team in the Nations Poker Cup in Whales. He played with Chris Ferguson, Jamie Gold, Robert Williamson, and Chad Brown.
Recently, Montel Williams joined a new company, Poker Training Network, as a Corporate Partner. That means he is personally invested in the company, not a paid celebrity promoter. Montel Williams told us about his recent trip to visit our recovering soldiers at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
He told us about how Walter Reed Hospital uses poker to help brain trauma soldiers recover. They use poker because poker analytically puts the brain back in order. It helps our soldiers re-socialize, do critical thinking, and do step thinking. They are using poker every Friday night to rehab our troops.
When Montel learned more about the way poker is being used he decided to take action. He contacted the President of the USO, a $290 Million Foundation. By the way, the USO is the only non-profit organization sanctioned by the US Congress. The President of the United States is the honorary President of the organization.

…The USO recently signed a contract with Poker Training Network (PTN) to put on the biggest fund raising event of the century. It’s happening first online, then finishing in Washington, DC this fall. This is the biggest event the USO has ever put on.
Senators, Congressmen, and other prominent US officials will play in this Charity Poker Event. This will be a major media publicized event. Poker Training Network and USO signs will be everywhere. The Senior VP for the USO, a 3 Star General in the Air Force, will travel the country with Monte Williams promoting this event. This is HUGE!
Montel Williams is already working on a few more major promotional events. Hmmm, what could that mean to those who choose to become Poker Training Network (PTN) Associates?
